Farquhar’s four-timer at Kells 2005

MSS Discovery rider Ryan Farquhar continued his winning ways at Kells Road Races in County Meath, Southern Ireland, notching up four race wins to dominate the meetings, which was a round of the Duke Road Race Rankings Series.   The Dungannon rider opened his account in the 600cc Irish Championship race, taking the chequered flag by 5 seconds from Richard Britton and Davy Morgan. He followed that with a record breaking victory in the Open race, heading home Guy Martin by a mere 0.353 of a second. Then followed a 600cc Non-Championship race , where he again headed home Guy and Adrian Archibald by over three seconds. In the Grand Final, it was a determined Guy Martin who had set his sights on the top prize of the day and in fact lead for most of the race, until the final corner, when the more experienced Farquhar squeezed past to take the flag by 0.178 of a second. The meeting was marred by a number of red flag incidents – thankfully there were no serious injuries. One of the best performances of the afternoon was that of William Dunlop, who had his broken collarbone pinned and finished the first 125cc race in second place, behind Mark Curtin - reversing the roles in the second race.
