MCUI Press Release – Task Force Review
The MCUI (UC), MCI, Sport NI and Irish Sports Council have been meeting in last few months to review the 2000 Task Force Report.
This report was approved in 2001 at the governing body’s Intercentre conference and was compiled to improve safety, rider training, race/practice laps, marshalling, First Aid and operations at Road Race events with a total of 67 recommendations.
Motorcycling Ireland and MCUI (UC) Road Race Commission have also been working closely towards a better understanding of joint and common practice at Irelands Road Race events to continually improve safety and the standards for the future of the sport.
The final report is not complete but the result of the review of the 67 recommendations is available,
60% of the recommendations where fully implemented.
28% was partially implemented.
12% was found to be obsolete.
This result on its own shows that there was great success in implementing these Task Force Report recommendations back in 2001 and in the team that put it together.
The recent review also moves the report forward with a new Code of Practice to be published for 2012 in which all road race promoters will be following the same format and recommended procedures at events.
We continually work to protect spectators and officials to the best of our ability with more spectator areas and general guidelines for them to follow while attending road races.
We would like to thank the Irish Sports Council, Sport NI and the Chairman of the review Mr Trouton for the input and support from all involved.
We appeal to all spectators attending Road Race events to stay out of prohibited areas, keep back from the road edge, do not climb or hang over fences, do not sit with your legs near the road edge and report to the nearest marshal anything/person that could be in a dangerous place.
Try and stay off the road between races.
